What is it about myths, legends, and fairy tales? I share a common experience, that something in me answered to them from a young age. I think we need these elemental yet transcendent stories. Fantasy, too, took an early hold of me. Among my favorite authors are Patricia A. McKillip, Ursula K. Le Guin, Tanith Lee, and Robin McKinley.

My other passion is horses. I feel most fully myself around animals—or when I’m so deep in nature that nothing else seems to exist. I have a mare named Hope, though she has numerous titles. My favorite is The Braless Wonder. Independence and pride run strongly through my girl, and she prefers to travel without saddle or bridle. I respect this. A halter and bareback pad suit us both much better.

I also love to create things. Stories, of course, but tangible things too: food, clothing, gardens. I know there will not be enough time in my life for all the things I want to do and learn.
